KAPSARC Project - Epoxy Terrazzo
The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre (KAPSARC) is an independent, non-profit research institution dedicated to researching energy economics, policy, technology, and the environment across all types of energy. KAPSARC is located in Riyadh, where its facilities are currently under construction.
The cellular structure of crystalline forms emerging from the desert landscape in Riyadh is the unique Center being built for KAPSARC, designed by the world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid. Composed of a network of three-dimensional, six-sided cells with many junctions and bonds, its design is based on the concept of connection. The modular, adaptive Research and Office Complex (ROC) is made up of a series of shaded outdoor spaces, courtyards, entrances, meeting areas, indoor gardens, corridors, underground tunnels and roof terraces.
The ROC has been designed to integrate with the environment and to minimize energy and water consumption.
NBTC worked jointly with North American Terrazzo in order to specify a unique terrazzo flooring for this iconic building which meets Zaha Hadeed Architecture design concept & vision.
As a platinum LEED project, Terrazzo of special resin/glass matrix selected by our design team, helped the project to achieve its vision for an environmental friendly building.
The total terrazzo area is about a 20,000 square meters installed at the all project building; RCT, CCT, ITC, Library & Musalla.
More than 500 liner meters of pre-casted epoxy terrazzo stairs are made at site to exactly match the floors and achieve the architects vision of seamless homogeneous floors
KAPSARC has been designed with special ventilation systems on floor which needed high attention to lay down floor with highly crafted details.
Epoxy terrazzo flooring easy to clean and hygienic which make it very suitable for clean zones, hospitals and food courts that require continuous cleaning.
